PURPOSE:To enable an engine to be operated with a high compression ratio by installing a spring on a connecting rod or making up the connecting rod with a spring material which can be elongated in the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:A spring is installed on a connecting rod or said rod is made up with a spring material which can be elongated in the longitudinal direction. For example, a resilient spring piece is interposed between the connecting rod and the bearing of a crank pin, whereby elongating the distance therebetween with the aid of the pressure of the spring so as to provide a higher compression ratio of a piston. At the time of explosion the explosive energy is stored as a resilient energy due to the deformation of the spring to shorten the distance therebetween and then discharged to the crankshaft. By mounting the connecting rod of this invention on a gasoline engine, the compression pressure may be used for ignition. The resultant problem of the irregular ignition timing may be dissolved by externally adjusting the ignition timings to be synchronized in a little advanced phase. |
