The shredder is provided with a box-shaped shredder housing and has an inlet-side feed device and a fixedly rotatable rotor which is connected downstream, mounted transversely in the shredder housing and equipped with hammers. At the lower section, a pneumatic extraction device is provided which serves to generate an underpressure in the region of the shredder housing in order to keep the shredder largely free of dust and operational. In the region of the feed device (2), an additional pneumatic extraction device (12) is mounted which directly detects the noxious substances present in the inlet region and extracts them pneumatically. The additional extraction device (12) comprises essentially one extraction pipe (13), which is guided in the horizontal direction over the shredder inlet, and extraction nozzles (14). <IMAGE>
