PURPOSE:To detect insufficient penetration without requiring a melting catalyst from an output of a contactless type ultrasonic probe arranged right below the weld section as melting and the base material separated therefrom. CONSTITUTION:A travelling unit 8 is moved in the direction of the weld line, probes 4a and 4b move with a welding torch 15 through a guide 10. At the same time, the probe 4a is so charged that the end face of the tip 12 of an arm 11 on a guide 10 gets in contact with the surface of a base material 11 and hence, moves in such a manner that the center thereof is positioned at the distance L from the surface of the base material 1 while it is retained right below the weld section 3 as melting. A probe 4b moves as retained right below the base material 2. In this manner, with the movement of the travelling unit 8, the weld section 3 is formed with a weld torch 15 while reflected echoes W1 and W2 from the probes 4a and 4b are detected with a flaw inspector 5 and outputted to the CPU16, which computes W1/W2=Su to determine whether there is insufficient penetration or not and the results are indicated on a display 17. |
