PURPOSE:To enable the adjustment of the spacing between drums and to stabilize operation by bringing the side dams used in a drum type continuous casting device into contact with a circular surface of one drum and the flat end face of the other drum. CONSTITUTION:Molten metal such as molten steel is charged into the spacing between water-cooled drums 1b and 1c which rotate at an equal speed in mutually opposite directions. The molten metal is cooled with the drums 1b, 1c, and a continuous casting billet 5 having the thickness d is manufactured. Side dams 10 are mounted on both sides of the two drums in order to prevent the outflow of the molten metal from both sides of the drums 1b, 1c. The dams 10 are brought into contact with the rotating outside on the drum 1b side and with the flat end face on the drum 1c side. The free adjustment of the spacing between the drums 1b and 1c is made possible while the spacings 10-a, 10-b between the drums 1b, 1c and the dams 10 are maintained constant, whereby the casting operation is accomplished stably. |
