[Also in Division E1] In a fixed-points rail junction, vehicles running on a common track 100 are automatically switched on to one of three tracks 1, 20 or 30 according to the design of the wheel flanges. The tracks employ rails of two different forms, the tracks 20, 30 having plain narrow rectangular rails 40, while the tracks 1, 100 have wider rectangular rails 1a, 1b provided with rectangular grooves 3. The vehicle axles are of the three forms shown, the small double flanges of wheels 61, 62 being of a diameter to ride in the grooves 3. In operation, those vehicles on track 100 having large inner flanges 6 engaging the lower shoulders of rails 1a, 1b are guided thereby on to the similar shouldered track 1, whereas those vehicles having the wheels 61 (on right) or 62 (on left) are guided by their outer flanges 61a or 62b on to tracks 30 or 20 respectively. |
