5-inosine carboxylic acid

Process for the preparation of 5'-inosine carboxylic acid (5'-IMP), inosine or a mixture thereof by inoculation of a mutant of a microorganism selected from Bacillus subtilis Cohn emend Prazmowski, Bacillus megaterium de Bary and Bacillus pumilus Gottheil, on a nutrient medium containing a source of adenine as well as a source of guanine or xanthine. The whole is incubated and the desired substance is then obtained from the nutrient medium. 5'-IMP and inosine play an important role as "precursors" in the biosynthesis of purine nucleotides. 5'-IMP also improves the taste of foodstuffs.
