Variable geometry front axle unit permitting a small, constant gap between a lorry and its trailer when manoeuvring

Device enabling the dead space between the rear of a lorry and the front of its trailer to be reduced in order to increase the volume intended for transport purposes. It comprises: a drawbar 1 fitted with its hitch 2 and the roller 3, also integral with the drawbar. The latter can slide over two bearings 4 and 5 fixed on the front axle unit 6. The roller 3 moves according to a cam 7, which results in the trajectory of the eye 2 becoming essentially parallel to the cam 7, instead of pivoting about the centre of the fifth wheel 6 as in conventional systems. The sphere of application is that of road transport where the aim is to obtain the maximum available volume within the dimensions laid down by road transport regulations. <IMAGE>
