PURPOSE:To obtain fibrous fluorinated graphite contg. fluorinated graphite represented by a specified formula, having a three-layered structure consisting of the specially arranged outermost and intermediate layers and the nondirectional central layer, and useful in a chemical field in which fluorinated graphite is handled. CONSTITUTION:This fibrous fluorinated graphite contains fluorinated graphite represented by formula I and/or fluorinated graphite represented by formula II, and it has a three-layered structure consisting of the outermost layer in which the hexagonal reticular planes of carbon are arranged parallel to the fiber axis in the form of the growth rings of a tree, the intermediate layer in which the hexagonal reticular planes are arranged radially and parallel to the fiber axis, and the central layer having no specified directional properties. The fibrous fluorinated graphite is obtd. by reacting fibrous carbon or graphite under pressure of fluorine. The molar ratio of F/C in the product approaches 1 in accordance with a rise in the reaction temp. |
