In a filter element, a device for removing a filter cake from a filter body is actuated by a piston-cylinder arrangement. The travel of the piston rod is substantially smaller than the length of the filter body. In order to completely scrape off the filter cake, despite the small travel, the filter body (6) is surrounded by a plurality of scraper rings (18). These are rigidly connected together and disposed at a uniform distance from each other, which is the same or smaller than the travel. The scraper rings are coupled to the piston rod. <IMAGE>
