In a portable firearm, a striking pin is cocked, counter to the force of a blocking device yielding when a predetermined cocking force is exceeded, as a result of the linear displacement of an actuating member. The firearm is therefore cocked automatically only when firing is also to take place. The cocking is cancelled immediately when the finger or thumb is removed from the actuating member.
