PURPOSE:To obtain a lubricating film having good durability and heat resistance by coating a lubricant consisting of a higher fatty acid or ester thereof on the surface of a magnetic layer having a surface consisting of a metal or metallic compd. and bringing the same into reaction to form the metallic salt of the lubricant then evaporating away the unreacted lubricant. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 1 produced by providing a magnetic metallic layer of Ni-Co etc. on a magnetic disc or the like, and coating a soln. of a higher fatty acid such as palmitic acid or the like or the ester, etc. thereof on the surface of the magnetic layer is mounted on the front end of a support 2 and while the same is moved in an arrow A direction along the groove 4 provided to a vessel 3, the inside of the vessel 3 is heated by using a heat source such as an IR lamp 5 or the like. Then the part except where the fatty acid salt is formed by reaction with the metal evaporates gradually on the surface of the magnetic layer and in two hours the fatty acid and the ester thereof are no longer inspected by a visual inspection. Equally good results are obtd. by forming a protective film of Si2 on the magnetic layer, providing a thin film of Al2O3 thereon, and treating the same with the higher fatty acid in the same way as mentioned above. The magnetic disc which retains the initial lubricating performance without deterioration upon long-term repeated use and has good heat resistance is thus obtd. |
