PURPOSE:To lengthen service life by providing air-tight resin layers at the ends of a pair of electrodes thereby preventing crossover phenomena at the end of a cell. CONSTITUTION:Air-tight resin layers are provided at the ends of a pair of electrodes 6a, 6b. For example, paper electrodes 6a, 6b made of carbon fiber are provided on both faces of an electrolyte layer 5 where silicon carbide powder is impregnated with phosphoric acid solution to constitute a unit cell 11. Then heat resistant and acid resistant resin is impregnated to the end section 10 of the electrode 6a to be adhered through a rubber insulator 7 and an adhesive tape 8. Since the end section of the electrode will never pass gas, even when a gap is produced between the insulator and the electrolyte layer through expansion due to the operating cycle of cell, gas will never pass to the opposite side of the electrode thus to prevent crossover. |
