2-Hydroxypropylhydroxylamines, substituted in the 3-position by an oxygen, sulphur or nitrogen function, of the formula I <IMAGE> are obtained when the hydroxyl group of alkyl hydroximates of the formula II <IMAGE> is reacted with the corresponding alkylating 2-hydroxypropyl compounds or propylene oxide derivatives of the formula III Y-CH2-R<6> (III> or O-alkylated alkyl hydroximates of the formula V <IMAGE> are reacted with compounds of the formula VI HR<6> (VI> and in each case the protective group <IMAGE> is removed by hydrolysis as <IMAGE> from the intermediates thus obtained and, if desired, the free bases are converted into their physiologically tolerable acid addition salts. These compounds are pharmacologically active and are therefore suitable for medicaments, in particular for the treatment of hypertensive states.
