Heading B3U. [Also in Divisions A4 and F2] A two part bolster button is applied to a cushion, mattress &c. by first clamping the workpiece 5, piercing it with a pin 6 and inserting a sleeve 8, after which the pin 6 is withdrawn, one of the button parts is inserted into the sleeve 8 and the latter is withdrawn to enable the stem 22 of the other button part to be inserted into the stem 21 of the one button part. The workpiece 5 is moved against a switch 25 which initiates operation of the machine by first causing the workpiece 5 to be clamped by clamps 4a, 4b. The one button part is fed by a supply device 17 to a vertically movable suction gripper 10. The other button part is fed by a similar device (not shown) to a suction gripper 13 which is rotatable to a position below the one button part after the pin 6 and sleeve 8 have been withdrawn from the workpiece 5. When the button parts are engaged, locking grooves in the stem 21 of the one button part are engaged by projections on the stem 22 of the other button part. |
