The heat exchanger constitutes the radiator of an IC, particularly a Diesel, engine cooling circuit and has at least one header and one expansion tank. A breather pipe links these two and a pipe from the tank bottom to the circulating pump inlet. The tank (30) top is higher than the header (16) top. The breather pipe (62) runs between the header and the tank upper regions, and inside the latter is extended above the filling level (32). The tank may adjoin the header. The pipe usefully ends close to and facing one of the tank's fixed walls.
