Determination of sodium flows in biological cells in suspension. The process of the invention consists in determining the extracellular Na<+> concentration of a suspension of cells in a suitable incubation medium with the aid of a sodium ion-specific electrode, the said electrode being coupled with electronic means arranged so as to obtain a direct linear reading of Na<+> concentration as a function of time. Application: detection of arterial hypertensions and clinical investigation of familial obesity and of manic-depressive psychosis. <IMAGE>
