A machine for the heat treatment of crushing hammers 1 such as those employed in mills and other metal components subjected to repeated mechanical impacts of the type of those comprising a heating unit 2, a device 3 for introducing or removing the hammers 1 from the heating unit 2 and means 4 for ensuring the abrupt cooling of the hammers after their removal from the heating unit 2 of the machine according to the invention, which is characterised essentially in that it is endowed with at least one flame torch 5 in the heating unit in order to permit a rapid temperature rise of the hammer 1 and means 6 for holding the said hammer under the flame of the torch(es) for a specified time depending on the desired depth of quenching and sufficiently short for the core of the said hammer not to be heated to the transformation temperature. <IMAGE>
