PURPOSE:In reacting dimethyl ether and/or methyl acetate with carbon monoxide, to obtain acetic anhydride in high yield, by using one or more selected from a lactone, alkylurea, and nitrile, as a solvent, and nickel, iodine, phosphine, etc. as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Dimethyl ester and/or methyl acetate is reacted with carbon monoxide in one or more solvents selected from a lactone, alkylurea, and nitrile in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (a) nickel, (b) iodine, and (c) phosphine and/or phosphonium salt to give acetic anhydride useful as a raw material for acetyl cellulose, etc. in high catalytic activity industrially advantageously. The amount of the solvent used is preferably >=25vol% based on the liquid phase of the reaction system, and the amount of the catalyst a used is 0.0001-0.1g atom based on 1mol raw material, the amount of the catalyst b used is 0.1- 100mol calculated as a simple substance based on 1g atom of the catalyst, a and the amount of the catalyst c is 1-100mol, respectively preferably. |
