The application relates to a device for heat transfer between a liquid and a gaseous heat carrier. Such a device can be used for heating the air current guided into the cabin interior of a motor vehicle. The quantity of heat to be transferred is determined by controlling the flow rate of the liquid heat carrier conveyed by a pump (17) through a heat exchanger (1) consisting of a plurality of branch circuits (2) extending in parallel. In order to render the quantity of heat to be transferred independent of changing pump speeds, the branch circuits (2) for the liquid heat carrier (3) can be switched individually and essentially in pure open/closed operation.
