Device which remains in the material and is intended for producing an expansion joint, in particular one in the screed. For this purpose, use is made of a spacer, consisting of compliant material and being in the form of at least one upright leg, and at least one foot for fixing the spacer in position. The device can be produced as a single part or comprise a plurality of parts. The latter includes the use of the upright leg with separate feet for fixing the leg in position. <IMAGE>
