The invention relates to a hydropneumatic vibration damper or spring strut with temperature compensation of the damping force, for which purpose the cross-sections of bypass openings can be varied as a function of temperature. For this purpose, a component variable as a function of temperature in rod or tube form is used, being provided with a large overall length and thereby bringing about a large actuating path. The overall length of the component variable as a function of temperature is greater than the diameter of the cylinder and this component is clamped in at a point remote from the restriction cross-section and slidingly supported against a cylindrical vibration damper part.
