The title compds. I (X, Y=Cl, nitro, MeF3; Z=H, halo; Hal=halo), useful as herbicides, were prepd. Thus, 0.45g 1,3-dimethyl-4-(2,4-dichlorobenzoyl)-5-hydroxpyrazole was dissolved in 15mL methyl ethyl ketone. This soln. was treated with 0.5g anhyd. K2C03 and 0.75g 1,1-dimethyl-2-chloroethyl-bromomethyl ketone and refluxed at 80≦̸C for 2 hrs. to give 0.7g 1,3-dimethyl-4-(2,4-dichlorobenzoyl)-5-pivaloylmethoxypyrazole.
