PURPOSE:To prevent humidity and dust from entering the inner part of the rotary electric machine during its quiescent time, by providing a cooling air intake and air outlet with shape memory alloy covers, thereby contriving the reduction in protection and curing cost necessary for the period from the installation of the rotary machine until its operation. CONSTITUTION:Shape memory alloy covers 18a and 18b for shutting the air intake port 16 and air outlet port 17 of the frame 15 and springs 20a and 20b for pressing these covers from above are installed at the frame 15 by means of screws 19a and 19b. In this way, humidity and dust can be prevented from entering the inner part of an electric motor 10 from the air intake 16 and air outlet 17 while the motor stops. When the motor 10 is operated, the covers 18a and 18b overcome the elastic force of the springs 20a and 20b due to heat produced from the motor 10 so as to be curved outward. Accordingly, the air intake port 16 and air outlet port 17 open so that the air will flow into the inner part of the motor to cool it.
