PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of holding a bevel gear by the titled device by a method wherein in the bevel gear holding device used in turning the rear surface of a processed bevel gear, at least three support rods each having a spherical top end are provided and the base of each rod is made flexible so as to move freely in the tangential direction of the axis of the bevel gear. CONSTITUTION:The spherical top ends 27 of support rods 28 are brought into engagment with the surfaces 32 of the teeth of a bevel gear 20, respectively, while the bevel gear 20 is fitted about a support shaft 12. In the above condition, a work stop 35 is operated and the bevel gear 20 is thrusted against the support rods 28. With the above structure, even when a pitch error takes place among the surfaces of the teeth of the gear or the accuracy of processing the surfaces of the teeth of the gear becomes irregular, since the support rods 28 are made flexible in the tangential direction of the gear 20, the spherical top ends of the rods 28 move to meet the irregularly processed surfaces of the teeth of the gear 20. |
