The lining 20 may cover the entire surface of the outer ply 10 or the lasting margin X and topline marging Y may be left bare. The outer ply 10 may be natural or imitation leather or a woven material of natural or synthetic fibres and the lining 20 may be a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin, a holt melt adhesive, a solvent base adhesive or latex. The lining 20 may be applied by a calendar roll, by a brush, spraying or electrostatic deposition. While the lining 20 is still tacky a cushion layer consisting of a pile 30 of fibres 28 (Fig. 5) may be applied to the lining 20. The fibres 28 are of equal length and are bonded at one end to the inner surface of the lining 20 and extend perpendicularly to the lining 20. The fibres 28 are electrostatically deposited on the lining 20 and may consist of short clippings of natural or synthetic fibres, ground cork, or comminuted particles of natural leather. |
