<p>A multi-part mould for pneumatic tyres has radially movable mould components to shape the tread portion. In each of the two half-moulds (each side of the central plane of the tyre) there are sector-shaped guide grooves parallel to the central plane, each groove receiving a sector-shaped profiling rib. These radially moving profile ribs are pref. secured to common backing plates radially outside the groove/rib arrangemnt; these backing plates are connected to pneumatic or hydraulic rams to provide the radial movement. The advantage of the system is that relatively complicated tread patterns can be formed with simple mould construction and light moulding forces.</p> |
