The apparatus possesses a packaging head (P) with grippers (31, 32) and folding members (34) which are seated on it and which rotate along a closed path. Furthermore, a sweet-supply plate (1), a feed chain (11) between the supply plate (11) and packaging head (P) and a wrapping-material delivery (H) are provided. For the purpose of increasing the packaging capacity, the sweet grippers, provided in the sweet carriers (15) of the feed chain (11), and the packaging-head grippers (31, 32), receiving the sweet (B), work in respective directions perpendicular to one another. Moreover, in the sweet-transfer region following the wrapping-material delivery (H), the path of movement of the feed chain (11) is guided into the path of movement of the packaging-head grippers (31, 32) to such an extent that the sweets (B) held by the sweet grippers (16, 17), together with the wrapping-material blank (45) laid over them, are introduced between the opened packaging-head grippers (31, 32). <IMAGE>
