DETECTOR FOR LEVEL OF MOLTEN METAL IN TWIN BELT TYPE CASTING MOLD

PURPOSE:To detect the level of the molten metal surface in a casting mold by providing a probe of an ultrasonic flaw detector on the rear side of a lower belt casting mold and measuring the time until the ultrasonic wave transmitted from the probe is reflected on the molten metal surface and returns to the probe. CONSTITUTION:A probe 10 of an ultrasonic flaw detector is provided on the rear side of the lower belt mold 2 of a twin belt casting mold which is provided with an upper belt mold 1 and a lower belt mold 2 above and below apart from each other at an adequate space and is inclined. The ultrasonic wave transmitted from the probe 10 passes through the film-like cooling water between the probe 10 and the belt 5 and arrives at the molten metal charged into the space part A. The ultrasonic wave reflects on the molten metal surface B, passes the belt 5 and the cooling water between the belt 5 and the probe 10 and returns again to the probe 10. The level of the surface B is continuously detected by measuring the time during the same.
