MANUFACTURE OF LEAD STORAGE BATTERY

PURPOSE:To prevent dropping of active substance by performing the bending after making grooves at the outside of the bent portion of a plate when bending a paste type plate employing an expand grid or punched grid into a cylinder or U-shape. CONSTITUTION:An unformed plate 1 is formed into band by filling a lead alloy expand grid 3 having a lug 2 with active substance paste 4. A groove 5 is made at the outside of bent portion through pressing. Three grooves 5 are made, for example, where the number of grooves, interval and depth are selected in accordance to the degree of bending and the thickness of plate. After bending it is formed into a frame 3' to prevent deterioration of the tightness between the grid and active substance. A plate group is formed by winding the rectangular positive plate 6 and negative plate 7 together with a separator 8 into a roll then it is assembled in a battery jar to constitute a cell. In such a manner a lead storage battery having the characteristic of an expand grid or a punched grid can be produced.
