In a central telecommunications switching system with differentiated-tariff charge calculation, charge tariff information is permanently stored in a central control device (ZW). When a change in tariff occurs, a series of charge tariff information elements, of which one charge tariff information element applies in each case to one charge zone, is transmitted in succession from the central control device (ZW) to each of a larger number of decentralised control devices (GP) as a preparatory measure. These transmission procedures are started in good time to ensure that they are completed before the specified time for the tariff change. At the time of the tariff change, the central control device (ZW) sends a start signal to all of the decentralised control devices (GP), whereby the current charge tariff information elements are replaced by the new charge tariff information elements. <IMAGE>
