Parallel vice with a base, guide rail, screw spindle with T-handle and a device for idle displacement of a movable clamping jaw, connected to the guide rail, relative to the fixed clamping jaw arranged on the base. The device for idle displacement has an engageable and disengageable coupling. The screw spindle is designed as a ball spindle possessing a coupling sleeve with ball holes. Inserted into the ball holes are, on the other hand, balls which are set into a thread groove. For the idle displacement of the movable clamping jaw, the coupling sleeve and another component of the ball spindle are adjustable relative to one another in the axial direction, so that the balls are released from the thread guidance in their thread groove. <IMAGE>
