<p>The invention provides a phosphine releasing composition suitable for use e.g. as a pest control agent comprising a mixture of aluminum phosphide power, finely divided zinc in the form of the metal or of a compound, e.g. zinc stearate, zinc oxide, zinc hydroxide-carbonate, zinc sulphate or zinc borate and a substance capable of decomposing or dissociating to yield ammonia, or ammonium ion, e.g. ammonium carbonate or bicarbonate, ammonium chloride or ammonium carbonate. The composition can be manufactured by simple mixing or the powderous components. Optionally the zinc if in the form of a soluble organic compound can be introduced dissolved in an anhydrous solvent which is subsequently evaporated. The composition can be provided in powder form, in the form of pressed bodies or in the form of a granulate. The compositions will generate phosphine gas when exposed to water vapour or liquid water without auto-ignition.</p> |
