PURPOSE:To identify surely and quickly the presence of a data and a magnetic stripe by writing a predetermined sample data when no read data is recognized during the read of magnetic stripe so as to read a sample data instantly. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic stripe control circuit 4 detects no data, the circuit 4 drives a drive motor 3 via a drive motor control circuit 5 and writes a predetermined sample data in a magnetic stripe 1. As soon as the sample data is written, the magnetic stripe control circuit 4 drives the drive motor 3 via the drive motor control circuit 5 and reads a sample data of the magnetic stripe 1 by the head 2. When the circuit 4 detects the sample data, a signal representing the presence of magnetic stripe is sent to an external host device and when not detected, a signal representing the absence of magnetic stripe is sent. Thus, the presence of the magnetic stripe and data is identified surely and quickly. |
