PURPOSE:To enable to distribute laser beam to a plurality of cylinders with high accuracy and with ease, by distributing the laser beam to the cylinders by changing the travelling direction of the laser beam by means of a beam deflector corresponding to a cylinder to be ignited, and thereby making it unnecessary, for instance, to distribute the laser beam by turning a mirror or the like with high accuracy. CONSTITUTION:An apparatus of this invention comprises elements 3-1-3-3 which turn the plane of polarization of laser beam 2, 90 degrees by electric-optical effect. The laser beam 2 energized at the ignition timing of a plurality of cylinders 9-1-9-4 is emitted to a plurality of beam deflectors with elements 4-1-4-3 which transmit or reflect the laser beam 2 by means of the elements 3-1-3-3 according to the beam deflecting direction, and the laser beam 2 is directed to a combustion chamber of the cylinder to be ignited by the mating beam deflector which is controlled by a laser distributing circuit 15. With such an arrangement, it is made unnecessary to distribute the laser beam 2 by turning a mirror or a prism with high accuracy or by bending an optical fiber over a large angle, so that the laser beam can be distributed to a plurality of cylinders with high accuracy and with ease. |
