<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the abrasion of the parts of the titled device due to useless operations and to reduce the engine load by a method wherein a mechanism for locking a slide member at the time of stoppage of a valve is provided between a sleeve and a plunger. CONSTITUTION:When the engine load is reduced and a cylinder reduction switch is turned ON, an electromagnetic check valve 53 is closed and a rod 63 pushes down a check ball 51 to establish communication between a high pressure chamber 29 and a low pressure chamber 27. When the slide member 17 is pushed up once so that a hole 71 coincides with a hole 65 and a hole 75, springs 67 come into contact with the straight section of the rod 63 and therefore, balls 73 are pressed against the springs 67 to lock the slide member 17 into the sleeve 17. As a consequence, it is possible to prevent the abrasion of the parts of the valve locking device due to useless operations and to reduce the engine load.</p> |
