发明名称 CONNECTING METHOD OF OPTICAL FIBER CORE
摘要 PURPOSE:To increase mechanical strength without flawing the surface, to eliminate the need for any org. solvent and to make non-pollutive and a long life by connecting bare optical fibers, the coverings of which are removed with a plasma treatment. CONSTITUTION:The 3-5cm forward end of an optical fiber core 2 is put in a plasma treatment device and after the inside of the device is evacuated to a vacuum, said end is treated for 30min under 500W high frequency electric power and 5Torr pressure with gaseous oxygen, rare gas such as helium and argon, gaseous notrogen or gaseous chlorine along or their mixture, whereby the plastic covering of about 390mum is thoroughly removed without any residue at all. It is also possible to treat said end after removing an Si buffer layer 7 together with a secondary covering 6 with a file in order to reduce time. A bare optical fiber 3 treated in such a way is cut to a specified length and the cut fibers are connected by melt sticking. The tensile strength for each one piece of the optical fiber (125mum diameter) is average 4kg, which is several times higher than the strength in the case of a conventional wire stripper. The bending strength thereof is >=10 times higher as well.
