Filter element consisting of two crown rings 1, 2, each bounded by two transverse faces 3, 7; 4, 8 and comprising successive angular sectors spaced at uniform intervals and assembled together and with the crown rings of other filter elements by tie rods, while each sector of a crown ring is bounded by two radial areas 11, 12 for leakproof bearing on the corresponding sector of the other crown ring. The passage holes 15 for the tie rods are arranged only in the regions of radial areas 11 bounding each sector. An application is the manufacture of a compact filter. <IMAGE>
