The assembly is esp. for a vehicle door having a drive mechanism which couples one or more door leaves to a drive motor. A movement arrester such as a return travel arrester (27) acts on the door leaf, motor or drive mechanism. The arrester prevents movement of the leaf in the opening direction, at least in the vicnity of the end closing position of the door. It may be released by the door control system, at least while the door is being opened by the motor. Its action is pref. jolt-free.
