METHOD AND DEVICE FOR STARTING DRAWING IN CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To surely start continuous casting by detecting the electrical conduction between a dummy bar inserted into a mold and molten metal and starting the drawing of the dummy bar. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 8 is poured into the tundish 2 and the molten steel 8 advances into the mold 3 to contact the dummy bar 23. A conduction detector detects the electrical conduction condition of a conductivity detecting element 24 and operates a timer device 27 when the conduction state is detected. The timer 27 feeds a signal to a driving device 28 upon lapse of the preset time. The driving of pinch rollers 22 is started by the driving device 28. The molten steel 8 in contact with the dummy bar 23 sticks thoroughly to the dummy bar 23 and the drawing of the continuous casting can be started while the unnecessary solidification of the molten steel near a tundish nozzle 10 is prevented.
