PURPOSE:To improve the weldability of a composite wire for arc welding by filling a flux contg. the flaky metallic powder defined by the specific relation together with a deoxidizing element at a prescribed ratio into a metallic sheath. CONSTITUTION:The flaky metallic powder of the shape defined by the equation 3<=W1/t is incorporated at >=5wt% into the flux (W1: the max. transverse width of the flaky metallic powder, t; max. thickness of said metallic powder). The flaky metal is a metal which has the same electric resistance as the electric resistance of the metallic sheath or the electric resistance slightly smaller than the same. The flaky metal may be iron powder, Al, Ni, etc. The steel flux is used and is filled into the mild steel sheath. The protrusion of the unfused flux is thoroughly eliminated and spatters are considerably decreased by using the composite wire for arc welding.
