A method for treating fuel gases produced at variable quantity, characterized in that the gas is consumed in a boiler (13) at the rate of production, the pressure of the gas as admitted to the inlets of pressure increasing means (S1, S2) being previously raised by these means to the feed pressure of the boiler (13), that part of the gas pressurized to the feed pressure of the boiler is recirculated to the entry if the quantity of the produced gas becomes smaller than the predetermined rate of flow of the pressure increasing means (S1, S2) which increase the pressure of this produced gas to the boiler feed pressure, and that part of the gas which has been increased in pressure up to the feed pressure is burned off into the environment as being in excess in relation to the consumption rate of the boiler.
