PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of NOx and HC discharged together with exhaust gas and to improve combustibility of the mixture, by fixing an exhaust baffle obliquely in an exhaust pipe in a pivotally movable manner, and opening the exhaust baffle at the time of acceleration by the force of exhaust-gas flow. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust baffle 2 having an elliptic form is disposed obliquely in a connecting pipe 1 connected to an exhaust pipe (a) in a pivotally movable manner by a pin 3, and the lower end of a retainer rod 4 supported in a freely slidable manner in a guide sleeve 7 is held in contact with one end of a plate member, the other end of which is fixed to the exhaust baffle 2. The upper end of the retainer rod 4 is held in resilient contact with one end of a plate spring 5, the other end of which is fixed to support members 6. With such an arrangement, the exhaust baffle 2 is forced open at the time of acceleration by the force of exhaust-gas flow against the force of the plate spring 5, and exhaust gas is discharged to the outside. However, since the exhaust baffle 2 is closed when acceleration is finished, exhaust gas is left in the engine. Therefore, it is enabled to reduce production of NOx and HC and at the same time to promote combustion by the exhaust gas left in the engine. |
