To use a machine as both an excavator and a loader without restriction, a conventional boom in excavators is cut through at a point below which a linear drive effecting the lifting and lowering of the boom acts and above which a further linear drive, which actuates a boom arm which can be pivoted towards the first boom arm, acts with its bottom end. Attached to the intersection is a change-over coupling to which the rest of the conventional excavator boom or, via appropriate loading rocker arms, a loading shovel can be coupled. A fully rotatable superstructure with counterweight located opposite in every working position is guaranteed in both cases.
