This apparatus has two mutually opposite bag-holder elements (2, 3), connected to each other in the manner of a hinged joint. A faeces-receiving bag (4) of flexible material is arranged between the two bag-holder elements (2, 3) and folded by its open end region about the free ends of the bag holder elements (2, 3). In order to be able to fold up this device for stowage, the two bag-holder elements (2, 3) each consist of two element sections (2', 2''; 3', 3'') which are connected to each other in the manner of a hinged joint and whose pivot range is limited, in the position of use of the apparatus, towards the central axis (7) thereof, by means of one stop (8) in each case, whereas in the opposite pivot direction it is possible to fold over element parts which are connected to each other in a hinged manner until they come to bear upon each other. <IMAGE>
