Method for manipulating a transfer cask, in which the transfer cask (10) is arranged in a double container which consists of an internal and an external container (12, 15). After manipulation of the transfer cask (10) in a deep part (16) of a water basin (14), the double container, which contains the transfer cask (10), is conveyed to a flat part (13) of the water basin (14) on which the upper part of the external container (15) projects beyond the water surface of the water basin (14). The transfer cask (10) is drawn up from the water basin (14) while it is contained in the internal container (12), which does not come into contact with the contaminated water in the water basin (14). The external container (15), which comes into contact with the contaminated water, remains in the water basin (14). A double container which is suitable for carrying out this method is likewise proposed.
