PURPOSE:To cast an ingot having a small section with a nozzle of a large diameter by enclosing the space between a tundish and a mold with a sealed chamber, supplying an inert gas into the sealed chamber and holding the same under a specific gaseous pressure thereby decreasing the apparent head of molten steel. CONSTITUTION:The space between a tundish 1 and a mold 2 is enclosed with a freely extensible and contractable sealed chamber 3, and an inert gas is supplied therein. Valves 4, 5 are so controlled as to hold the gaseous pressure at <=70% of the pressure corresponding to the head of molten steel. Since the apparent head of the molten steel is decreased and the amt. of the molten steel to be charged is decreased by the abovementioned method, an ingot having a small section is cast even if a tundish nozzle 10 of Al-deoxidizing material or the like having a small diameter with which the ingot having a small section is uncastable is used. |
