The invention relates to an independent unit, for example of the camping or other type, which may be immediately adapted for transport on the platform of a conventional commercial chassis-cab vehicle. The unit, which has a metal frame filled in with sealed panels, possesses an underfloor in the form of a series of reinforcements designed so as to fit the transverse members of the chassis-cab platform with the installing of lockable joints and/or screw-down wheels at the points where the ends of the members are received. Provision is made for jacks, for example four in number to be inserted into the ends of the crossmembers of the underfloor of the unit in order to place the unit on the chassis. Application, in particular, to transportable camping units for holidaying in one place. <IMAGE>
