PURPOSE:To obtain a tape-like optical fiber core which is strong to bending and twisting by covering collectively plural pieces of juxtaposed optical fiber strands with a gel-like material layer and covering collectively the outside circumference thereof with a polymer collective covering layer like a tape. CONSTITUTION:A tape-like optical fiber core is formed by covering collectively plural pieces of juxtaposed optical fiber strands with a gel-like material layer 3, and covering the outside circumference thereof with a polymer material collective covering layer 2 like a tape. The respective optical fiber strands 1 formed by providing primary covering layers on the outside of the optical fibers are used. For example, silicon gel is used as the gel-like material. The layer 2 is formed by extrusion coating with, for example, nylon or the like. Then, the respective strands 1 are virtually freely movable in the layer 3; therefore, even if the tape-like optical fiber core is subjected to bending or twisting, the increase in the transmission loss is suppressed. The tape-like optical fiber core strong to bending and twisting is thus obtained. |
