PURPOSE:To obtain an optical branching and coupling device with less coupling loss by bundling plural pieces of plastic optical fibers having no clad films over a prescribed length, softening and melting and same, and forming the melt to a prescribed shape. CONSTITUTION:''Super ESKA SK-40'' is used as a plastic optical fiber. SK-40 of 0.98mm. diameter is first cut off at 1m length, and while the fiber is subjected to ultrasonic oscillation, the fiber is dipped for one minute in N,N'-dimethylformamide, whereby a clad layer 10 is removed to make the diameter 0.95mm.. The central parts of the two fibers made in such a way are bundled, are inserted into a melt sticking jig shown in the figure and is subjected to compression under heating, whereby an optical mixing part is obtd. The optical branching and coupling device having less coupling loss as compared to the prior art is obtained by the above-mentioned method. |
