Animal feed substances with high water content, such as fish ensilage, are preserved by adding organic acids, preferably formic acid and acetic acid, possibly inorganic acids, and an antioxidant, as well as polyhexamethylene biguanide, and possibly 8- hydroxyquinoline, or a salt or complex thereof. In this way, one achieves an effective preservation of the feed substance and a possibility of incorporating it in the feed of pelt-bearing animals in quantities up to 40 percent without reduction in quality of pelts. |
